Our impact

Vote Rev has supported partners in turning out the voters needed for progressives to win in the states that matter most.

The best way to get someone to vote is to have a friend remind them—but the core get-out-the-vote (GOTV) messaging used during the 2016 election campaign included no prompt to voters to remind their friends to vote. Why? Because at that time, there were no scientifically proven, scalable ways to get millions of people to remind their friends to vote.

Between 2016 and 2020, we used our behavioral innovation process to quickly design research-backed, scalable friend-to-friend programs. In 2020, we provided coaching and training to hundreds of campaigns and voter turnout organizations in the states that mattered most. In 2022, we built on our 2020 work — mainstreaming Vote Rev’s suite of relational turnout tactics in the tightest races and most important places around the country.

These relational voting reminders have sparked tens of thousands of net Democratic votes.

  • 2020 partisan impact

With our democracy on the line, the Biden-Harris campaign and 123 other partners employed Vote Rev’s vote-tripling tactics, producing an historic 7,000,000 friend-to-friend reminders in the states that mattered most.

    2020 nonpartisan impact

Vote Rev Action Fund trained 41 mission-aligned nonpartisan organizations to use polling-place vote tripling (PPVT) and other programs. The efforts of these partners produced over 250,000 friend-to-friend reminders.

Enduring impact

Designing voter engagement tactics that work is at the core of our mission. Because our tactics work, they will be used for years to come.

Polling-place vote tripling works. That’s why organizer after organizer who used PPVT in 2020 brought it with them to Georgia to use during the 2021 U.S. Senate runoff.

Vote Rev thinks of the tactics it develops as rocket ships, and of its team as a booster engine for campaigns and political organizations. Booster engines accelerate a rocket ship to escape velocity, the speed at which it escapes Earth’s gravity. Then, while the boosters return to Earth, the rocket ship can continue forward on its course.

Once we know a tactic like PPVT or SBVT is powerful and effective, we work to quickly boost the progressive campaign and mission-aligned nonprofit ecosystems with that knowledge—so they can integrate these tactics into GOTV strategies for election cycle after cycle, without our support.
